Adult Treatment

Adult Treatment

No matter your age, you deserve a smile that gives you confidence. Braces are not just for children anymore. With the latest advancements in technologies, we can get you the smile you deserve!

Here at Crawford Orthodontic Care, we work hard to give you the smile you’ve always wanted. We offer several different treatments that can be effective no matter how old you are. More and more orthodontic treatments are becoming available to give adults the smile that they want.

Orthodontic treatments are not just for your smile. Fixing your teeth can also dramatically change your oral health. When you have crooked teeth or a malocclusion (uneven bite), you may be prone to oral health problems such as gum disease and tartar buildup.

It can be really hard to brush between your teeth when they don’t line up correctly, which will lead to more cavities and decay. Many people who suffer from malocclusions have jaw pain and headaches.

If you want to improve your smile, we always start with a thorough examination and x-rays. We will then discuss your options, including different forms of braces, aligners, and retainers. We will also talk about the treatment plan, what you should expect, and the cost. Finally, we will guide you through your insurance coverage to find out if you can be covered for all or part of your treatments.

It is never too late to have a smile that you love to show off. Contact us today to discuss your options! You won’t believe how quickly you can see a change in your smile with the appropriate treatment.

Braces

Braces

Here at Crawford Orthodontic Care, we are proud to offer braces to our patients, both children and adults. No matter your age, you deserve a smile that gives you confidence. For many patients, braces are the treatment they require for a straighter, healthier smile. Braces can fix crowded teeth, gap teeth, misaligned bites, and more.

When determining the best course of action to fix your smile, our dentists will do a thorough examination with x-rays, a comprehensive exam of your oral health, and gather important information from your dental history. We will then decide what type of braces would work best for you.

Braces consist of bands and wires. Depending on your needs, other corrective appliances may be required. They work by applying pressure on your teeth and gums to move your teeth into the right position. Your mouth will need to be monitored closely, and sometimes your braces may need to be adjusted to ensure they are working the way they are supposed to.

Be sure to brush your teeth often while you have braces, so food and other particles do not get stuck and collect bacteria. Flossing is equally important. You may also find that some foods are more difficult to eat or may be rough on your braces. It’s best to stay away from those types of foods.

Clear Braces

Clear Braces

Here at Crawford Orthodontic Care, we are proud to offer clear braces for our patients. Most teens and adults are reluctant to get the orthodontic care they need due to the appearance of orthodontic appliances. That’s why we offer clear braces, which are much less noticeable than metal braces, but still give patients a smile they deserve.

Clear aligners are not the same as clear braces. Clear aligners are plastic trays that you wear over your teeth, like a shell. Clear braces are just like metal braces, but they are almost invisible.

Clear braces have many advantages. They are almost invisible, giving patients who do not want the look of traditional braces another alternative.

Despite all of the advantages, there are some disadvantages to consider, too. They are typically more costly than traditional metal braces, though we offer payment plans for all patients. They can also become discolored by tea, coffee, wine, and other foods. Smoking can also cause discoloration.

After a thorough examination with X-rays, we will be happy to discuss all of your options for orthodontic care. We will go over the advantages and disadvantages of each so that we can determine the right course of treatment.

Retention

Retention / Retainers

After you have worn your braces for the appropriate amount of time, we move into the retention stage of your treatment. It is very important not to skip this step or all of your hard work will not pay off as you had hoped. Your teeth may move back instead of staying in place.

During retention, you will have to wear retainers as your teeth adjust to staying in their new place without braces. You should wear your retainers as recommended by your dentist. Some can be worn only at night, while others need to be worn almost all of the time.

It is really important that you continue to brush your teeth while you are in this stage. All you have to do is remove your retainer, and then you will be able to brush your teeth better than you were able to when you had braces. You should also brush your retainer before placing it back to your mouth.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening

A common request we receive is how to make a smile whiter and brighter. This is a relatively simple and quick treatment option that can be performed periodically. Certain foods and beverages, such as wine and coffee, stain the teeth and contribute to discoloration. The teeth whitening process provides a solution that lightens the shade of the teeth. Additionally, the process actually rids the teeth of plaque and tartar that tend to lead to dental problems.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics is a dental specialty that involves correcting teeth that are improperly positioned. Improperly positioned teeth can lead to dental health problems, so it’s important to add a visit to the orthodontist to your healthcare routine.

Here at Crawford Orthodontic Care, we are proud to offer our clients the best and most up-to-date orthodontic services.

While orthodontics can be considered mostly cosmetic, it is important to fix problems for a healthy mouth. Teeth that are crooked or do not line up are the perfect place for food and bacteria to hide. They can also be hard to clean, leading to cavities and other problems down the line.

The goal in treating problem teeth is to ensure a healthy mouth in the future. It is important to close any gaps between teeth and to make sure the teeth all line up correctly. Sometimes teeth are crooked and need to be straightened. Orthodontics can also improve eating and even a client’s speech in some cases.

How can these problems be fixed? Braces are the most common treatment, though we also treat our clients with headgear, plates, and more.

Two-Phase Treatment

At Crawford Orthodontic Care, we are proud to offer two-phase orthodontic treatment. Two-phase treatment is used not only to straighten your child’s teeth but also to make sure that your child’s face is symmetrical. Using this two-phase approach, we can focus on both the teeth and overall appearance of your child’s face.

Though many people try to put off orthodontic work, the sooner that we can fix whatever the problem is, the easier the treatment will be. The longer you wait, the more costly and challenging treatment can become. As soon as your dentist recommends orthodontic work, you should bring your child in right away to ensure fast and effective treatment.

The first phase of treatment deals with the placement of children’s jawbones. Early treatment during this phase can save children a lot of struggles later in life. During this phase, we don’t use braces or other appliances on the teeth since permanent teeth are still erupting.

After a rest period, while the rest of the permanent teeth come in, we start phase two, which involves using braces or some other appliance to line up the teeth correctly. This phase can take up to two years to move the teeth where they need to be. Afterward, we recommend that children wear a retainer to keep their teeth in place.

If you have any questions about two-phase orthodontic treatment, don’t hesitate to contact us today at (770) 447-5311.

Children’s Orthodontics

The earlier we catch problems with your child’s bite, the simpler they are to fix. The results are often better than if we wait and will require significantly less work. We may not need to keep braces on your child for as long when they are younger, which means less expense for you.

The American Association of Orthodontics (AAO) recommends that children visit an orthodontist as soon as their dentist notices that there might be a problem, or before they are seven years old. We may not have to do anything at this age, other than monitor the child’s mouth. However, if we continue to watch your child, we can start treatment right away if something arises.

Early intervention can be beneficial. We will watch how your child’s mouth and teeth grow and develop, so if we see something that needs to be done, we can do it as soon as possible. We will also know exactly when to start treatment, if needed.

At the age of seven, the first adult molars start to come in to help establish the back bite. We can start to evaluate your child’s permanent bite formation, both front-to-back and side-to-side.

Early treatment allows us to do the following:

  • Make room for the permanent teeth when there is overcrowding
  • Ensure facial symmetry
  • Reduce trauma when the front teeth are protruding

Early treatment also reduces the need to remove teeth and the time patients must wear braces. According to AAO studies, skipping orthodontic treatment can lead to the following:

  • Crossbites can result in unfavorable growth and uneven tooth wear.
  • Open bites can result in tongue-thrusting habits and speech impediments. With proper and timely orthodontic treatment, you may have the following benefits:
  • A healthier mouth since crowded teeth can be hard to brush causing cavities and gum disease.
  • Fewer broken teeth since protruding teeth are more likely to get broken.
